GIRLS BASKETBALL: Albany, New Glarus fall

ALBANY - Barneveld, the No. 2 team in the WisSports.net Division 4 Coaches Poll, used its defense to hold off Albany, 48-28, in a Six Rivers East girls basketball game Thursday.

The Comets trailed 11-9 after the first quarter, and 26-19 at halftime. It wasn't until the second half that the Eagles broke the game open.

Melissa Carmody scored 22 points for Barneveld.

Albany had even scoring throughout its lineup. Tamiya Sandlin scored a team-high eight points and both Tiffany Thompson and Nicolette Blumer scored six. Sydney Bump, Hayli Peach, Kaitlyn Schultz and Courtney Pfeuti each added a basket for the Comets.

Albany (2-3, 0-1 Six Rivers East) will travel to Argyle on Tuesday, Dec. 9.

LAKESIDE LUTHERAN 74, NEW GLARUS 30

LAKE MILLS - The Glarner Knights had a rough go in the first round of Capitol South action.

Lakeside Lutheran jumped out to an 18-9 lead after the first quarter and led 32-13 at halftime. In the second half, New Glarus' defense fell apart - the Knights were outscored 27-8 in the third quarter alone.

Alissa Siegenthaler led New Glarus with seven points. Tanya Gruter had six points and Michelle Preston and Lauren Narveson each chipped in with five. Four players from Lakeside Lutheran reached double-figures.
