MONROE - The Monroe girls swimming team varsity and junior varsity combined, set a total of 21 personal records, but it wasn't enough to grab the win from Fort Atkinson Tuesday, Oct. 1.
The Blackhawks defeated the Cheesemakers 119-51 at the Green County YMCA. Monroe freshman Skylar Lassen had two second place-finishes in the 200-meter individual medley (2 minutes, 58.46 seconds) and the 100 freestyle, where she set a personal record of her own (1:09.27).
Monroe sophomore Abby Oudinot took second place in the 50 freestyle with a PR of 30.62 seconds and also posted a PR in the 100 freestyle (1:11.47).
Monroe had seven swimmers set personal bests in two events: Angie Beaver in the 200-meter freestyle (2 minutes, 40.25 seconds) and 100 backstroke (1:21.86), Grace Moehn 200 freestyle (2:37.3) and 100 breaststroke, Mackenzie Hesgard 100 butterfly (1:28.30) and 100 breaststroke (1:36.56), Anna Meritt 50 freestyle (32.24) and 400 freestyle (5:39.9), Monica Sefcik 200 IM (3:22.20) and 400 freestyle (5:46.31) and Haley Kaiser 100 butterfly (1:36.28) and 100 backstroke (1:29.18).
"Even though the score doesn't reflect it, it was a great night at the pool," Cheesemakers coach Linda Moser said. "Tonight I hope they proved to themselves that they can compete with top teams in the conference."
