Edgewood edges MHS tennis team, 4-3

MADISON - Monroe's girls tennis team dropped a close one in the Badger South Conference on Tuesday to Madison Edgewood 4-3.

Monroe's Kristin McArdle fell 6-2, 6-3, in the No. 1 singles match to Courtney Halbach. Ellie Shuda went down swinging to Sydney Kirsh 2-6, 6-3, 6-3 in No. 2 singles. The Cheesemakers' Kiera Berger won the No. 3 singles match over Molly Mullane 6-1, 6-2, but Miranda Henke fell 7-5, 6-1 to Chloe Starz in No. 4 singles.

In the doubles category, Monroe's No. 1 team of Pam Lehman and Melissa Hill fell 6-4, 7-6 (5) to Laura Phelan and Kylee Molitor.

The Cheesemakers won both the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles by virtually the same marks. Monroe's Ashley Hermanson and Gwen Sutter knocked off Caroline Christianson and Rachel Wabers in the No. 2 doubles 6-3, 6-3. Taylor Weis and Kelsey Erickson won the No. 3 doubles match over Brianna Piddington and Catherine Tharp 6-3, 6-4.

Monroe plays at home against Stoughton on Thursday before ending its regular season at Milton on Monday, Sept. 22.
