EVANSVILLE - In her first game replacing graduated, two-time Six Rivers Conference Player of the Year Amber Ramos as the ace of the Juda-Albany softball team, junior Tabatha Davis admirably filled the shoes of her predecessor, throwing a complete game, two-hit shutout in a 9-0 win over Evansville.

Davis racked up nine strikeouts in the game, while not walking any Blue Devils. Juda-Albany coach Bill Davis said she did a good job of throwing strikes.

"I think she was pretty poised. Kept the ball around the plate, made them swing," he said.

The Panthers put up three runs in the first inning, two in the third, one in the fourth, and three in the sixth. Jessica Rackow was 2-for-4 with three RBIs for the Panthers.

Other top hitters for Juda-Albany included Molly Marass and Carlie Peters, each of whom had two hits. Davis was happy with his team's performance at the plate, especially in clutch situations.

"Hit the ball really well. Only had two strikeouts on the night. A lot of clutch hits pretty much all the way down the lineup ... spread our hits out pretty good," he said. "Those were clutch timely hits. It's really good when the pressure's on to come up with that clutch hit. I thought that they answered really well."

Davis also said that his team played a solid game, especially considering how little they've been outside.

"First of all, some kids were pretty nervous getting outside for the first time. Wow, was it nice to get outside and play. I know they were looking forward to it," said Davis.

"We made a few baserunning blunders, but other than that a pretty solid game."

Juda-Albany is at the Brodhead tournament today, where they are scheduled to play Orfordville and Elkhorn. The Panthers were originally scheduled to play three games in the tournament, but that number was scaled back due to weather concerns.

"Hopefully we can get at least one of those games in," he said.
