CUBA CITY - Darlington senior Sami Poss shot a 100 to finish in second place at the Southwest Wisconsin Activities League-Southwest Wisconsin Conference tournament Wednesday, Sept. 25.
Poss' performance helped the Darlington-Cuba City girls golf team finish third in the conference tournament (428). Lancaster won the team title 408-412 over Prairie du Chien at Cole Acres. Alexis Galvan of Lancaster finished first place after carding an 89. Medals were awarded to the two lowest scores. The coaches picked the all-conference team and that included Poss and Galvan as the MVP of the SWAL/SWC meet.
Darlington-Cuba City coach Jim Poss said the team was in second place after the first nine holes.
"Prairie du Chien shot very well the second nine and overtook us for second place," Poss said. "The weather was beautiful and for this birthday boy, the girls gave me the best present. They played hard and never gave up. What more can a coach ask for?"
History has a way of repeating itself. Two years ago, Shelby Poss, Sami's older sister shot a 100 at the conference meet to take second place and earned first-team all-conference honors. This year, Sami Poss did the same thing.
"What are the odds?," Poss questioned.
Darlington-Cuba City's Shelly Augustin shot a 105 and Alexi Wagner shot a 108. Kinsey Gould carded a 115 and Ali Simmons finished with a 118.
"For this coach, dealing with mostly first year varsity players, I felt like they did an outstanding job for their first year out," Poss said.
