JANESVILLE - Monroe's tennis team went 2-0-1 during Wednesday's Janesville Craig Invitational at Palmer Park.

Monroe topped Jefferson 6-1 in the first round, edged Craig 4-3 in the second round, but rain forced the championship match with Fort Atkinson to be called off with both teams tied 2-2.

In the Cheesemakers' win over Jefferson, junior Kristin McArdle rolled through the No. 1 singles match, winning 6-0, 6-0 over Christy Schuld. Sophomore Ellie Shuda won 6-1, 6-2 in the No. 2 singles and sophomore Lily Priewe won the No. 4 singles, 6-2, 6-1. Kiera Berger, Monroe's No. 3 singles, lost 6-1, 6-4.

Against Janesville Craig, Monroe head coach Stephanie Miller mixed up her lineup.

Berger was dropped from No. 3 singles to No. 4, and McKenzie Bruce went from doubles to No. 3 singles. Alyssa Quinn took Bruce's place in No. 3 doubles. Emily Grossen also moved up to No. 1 doubles to play with Erickson, and Hermanson dropped down to No. 2 doubles, where she teamed up with Sutter. In 2008, Sutter and Hermanson were paired together all season.

"We played a very close second round match," Miller said, of facing Janesville Craig.
