FORT ATKINSON - After splitting the first four games of their Badger Conference volleyball match with Fort Atkinson, the Monroe Cheesemakers looked to take game five and get a road victory. Instead, they left Fort Atkinson with a frustrating 3-2 loss.
The Blackhawks handed the Cheesemakers a 25-16, 23-25, 25-13, 21-25, 15-5 defeat, dropping the Cheesemakers to 0-2 in the Badger Conference and 4-3 overall.
Monroe head coach Dave Gersbach said the game-five loss was "one of those where Fort was really scrappy. I felt we attacked well. We got a little frustrated and we got rattled."
Senior Jamie Armstrong had a huge game for Monroe, finishing with 25 kills, six aces, three blocks and six digs. Jessica Wyssbrod had 40 assists and Chelsea Wyss added six digs for the Cheesemakers.
Gersbach said the team expected to come out victorious in game five, but, "when Jamie got to the back row, we had a tough time siding them out."
Monroe will have another road test Sept. 10, when they travel to Badger South power Madison Edgewood.
