MONONA - The Cheesemakers swim team accomplished one of two goals at the Badger Conference Swim Meet, beating Stoughton.

"The other goal was to have everyone with at least one personal records," Monroe head coach Linda Moser said.

The Cheesemakers finished the day with 12 personal records, including two apiece from Veronica Andraski, Nichole Lettin, and Kylee Ritschard. "Setting and reaching a goal is very important to our swimmers. They have one more shot next wek of trying to get everyone to set a PR at least once during sectionals," Moser said.

No swimmer won a race, and Randi Robertson had the closest shot at the winners table, finishing fifth in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:06.41. Andraski wasn't far behind, finishing sixth and a half a kick later at 1:06.85. Andraski took 10th in the 50 freestyle for her other PR with a time of 27.25.

Robertson, Andraski, Sarah Heitkamp and Britney Johnson finished ninth in the 200 freestyle relay at 1:52.54. Leanna Schwartzlow snagged a PR in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:26.45, finishing seventh.

"Both 400 freestyle relays came out to swim for it all tonight," Moser said. "The relay team of Heitkamp, Ritschard, (Kendell) Niffenegger, and Schwartzlow bettered their time by eight seconds, and the second team beat their previous best by three seconds.

"It was great to see both relays do well because next week at sectionals we are only allowed one relay in each relay event."

For many of the swimmers, the conference meet was their lost shot of swimming this season, with sectionals scheduled for next Saturday in Baraboo at 1 p.m.

"It was important to end on a high note, and they did," Moser said of her team.
