BELMONT - The Monticello boys basketball team lost a non-conference season opener to Belmont 58-54 Monday, Nov. 25.

Belmont jumped out to a 17-8 first quarter lead before the Ponies rallied. Monticello sophomore Ben May and senior Lucas Marty each scored 18 points to lead the Ponies.

There were 10 different points where the game was tied. The Ponies didn't take the lead until senior Logan Crooks scored with 7 minutes, 11 seconds to go in the fourth quarter.

Monticello's Logan Marty added nine points. The Ponies made 12 of 19 free throws. Monticello (0-1) will host New Glarus on Saturday, Nov. 30.
