Blue Devils move on to state

WISCONSIN DELLS - The Evansville-Albany wrestling team punched their ticket to the state team tournament with a comeback 38-30 win over West Salem-Bangor Tuesday, Feb. 18 in the WIAA Division 2 Wisconsin Dells sectional championship match.

The Blue Devils in the sectional semifinals edged Lodi 31-30. Evansville-Albany qualified for the team sectional by winning the Clinton regional Saturday, Feb. 15.

Evansville-Albany's Dustin Bjugstad and heavyweight Ryan Meehan each won matches to clinch the win over West Salem-Bangor. Bjugstad defeated Zach Denton 12-1 and Meehan pinned Aaron Broer in 4:29.

The other wins for the Blue Devils in the sectional final included Brandon Robinson (120) with a 12-2 win over Richard Schams and Chase Katzenmeyer (126) with a pin, Nathan Vickery (138) with an 8-3 win over Josh Score, Nick Lehman (152) with a pin, Tyler Grant (170) with a pin and Lucius Rinehart (195) with a 2-0 win over Jay Buisman.

Against Lodi, Evansville-Albany got pins from Jordan Meyer (132) and Meehan (heavyweight). Katzenmeyer defeated Lodi's Cole Endres 10-1 and teammate Hayden Milz (145) defeated Tristan McDonald 14-3. Grant defeated Logan Gordon in a technical fall 19-4. Rinehart beat Ryan Ripp 4-2 in overtime and Bjugstad defeated Chandler Grilles 9-3.
