SOUTH WAYNE - Steve Herbst is the latest main squeeze in Warrior nation.
The Black Hawk (8-6, 6-3 Six Rivers East) senior laid down a picture perfect suicide squeeze bunt on a 1-1 count between the mound and third base to plate classmate Jake Kaempfer, as the Warriors walked off with a 3-2 Six Rivers East baseball victory Monday evening.
Tyler Bauman took the tough loss in working the distance on the hill. The Comets junior brought in his club's only runs with a two-out, two-run double in the first inning.
After two Warrior errors let Albany (2-7 conf.) load the bases with two outs in the seventh, Black Hawk ace Alex Abraham finished off his complete-game victory by striking Bauman out.
"Abe went right after him," Black Hawk coach Todd Strang said. "They wanted him at the plate and we wanted Abe on the mound and that's how it should have ended."
SIX RIVERS EAST BARNEVELD 4, JUDA 0> Barneveld senior Kyle Thompson made the going tough for the Juda baseball team, pitching a complete game one-hitter to lead the Eagles to a 4-0 victory over the Panthers. "He (Thompson) got ahead of pretty much every batter," Juda coach Brent Bockhop said. "We had to hit his pitches, which we didn't do a good job of." Juda (6-5, 5-5 Six Rivers East) had two errors in the second inning, which led to two runs for the Eagles (8-1).
