ALBANY - The Barneveld Eagles won an early season battle for second place in the Six Rivers East with a 53-38 win over the Albany Comets Thursday.
The Eagles held the Comets to single-digit scoring in each of the first three quarters to hammer out the win. The Comets were led in scoring by senior Sydney Bump with 15 points. Senior Rosy Bauman and sophomore Cassidy Bump each scored seven points for the Comets.
Albany (7-4, 2-2 Six Rivers East) will travel to Argyle Tuesday.
New Glarus 88, Waterloo 30
NEW GLARUS - The New Glarus Glarner Knights and the Waterloo Pirates were both looking to get their first Capitol South Conference win Thursday. The Glarner Knight got the win and put an exclamation on it.
New Glarus took control early, taking a 22-6 lead after the first quarter and a 46-17 halftime lead.
"It was a good win for us," New Glarus coach Megan Scheele said. "We played our game and played really well together."
Five players scored in double figures for the Glarner Knights, led by sophomore Anya Schween with 17 points and senior Chelsea Holler with 16. Junior Alycia Atwell dropped in 13 points, sophomore Alexis Hanson added 11 points, and sophomore Cassie Feller scored 10 points for the Glarner Knights.
New Glarus (4-5, 1-3 Capitol South) will travel to Poynette Tuesday.
Brodhead 50, Clinton 32
BRODHEAD - Tuesday's overtime win over Belleville didn't slow down the first-place Brodhead girls basketball team as the Cardinals rolled past the Clinton Cougars in a Rock Valley South Conference game.
The Cardinals got off to a great start, outscoring the Cougars 14-2 in the first quarter on their way to a commanding 24-6 halftime lead.
Sophomore Taylor Douglas led all scorers with 15 points while senior Mariah Mohns scored 13 points and freshman Carly Mohns added 12 for the Cardinals.
Brodhead (7-5, 5-1 Rock Valley South) will travel to East Troy Tuesday.
Juda 74, Pecatonica 51
BLANCHARDVILLE - The Juda Panthers erupted for 44 points in the second half to defeat the Pecatonica Vikings, 74-51 in a Six Rivers East conference game Thursday.
The Panthers were clinging to a five point lead at halftime at 30-25, then stretched the lead to 12 points after three quarters before outscoring the Vikings 27-16 over the final eight minutes.
Senior Alycia Grenzow of Juda was the game's top scorer with 23 points while teammate Ellen Kiser added 19 points for Juda. Pecatonica was led by sophomore Lizzy Britt with 11 points and senior Alisha Esselstein with 10 points.
Juda (11-2, 3-1 Six Rivers East) will host conference leader Black Hawk on Tuesday. Pecatonica (1-10, 1-3) will travel to Barneveld the same night.
