MONROE - The Monroe Avalanche U18 varsity hockey team won two games and tied a third in games played this past weekend.
Friday night the Avalanche hosted the Joliet Jaguars at SLICE, and won 5-4.
Matt Bush, Ron Draves, Ian Zimmerman, Gotti Brandli and Luke Newcomer scored goals for Monroe. Assists were credited to Taylor Riese (two), Thomas Massman and Mitch Riese. Sean Winters had 23 saves in goal for Monroe.
Saturday the Avalance traveled to Peoria to play the Jr. Rivermen. The game ended in a 3-3 tie.
Jamie Moats, Brayden Fritsch, and Luke Newcomer scored goals for Monroe. Assists went to Gotti Brandli, Ron Draves, Jon Becker and Matt Bush. Winters stopped 10 in goal.
On Sunday, the Avalanche traveled to Bloomington, Ill., and won 5-3.
Monroe erased an early two goal deficit during the second period and went on to score three in the third period. Thomas Massman scored two goals along with Brandli, Jamie Moats and Jordan Steurer. Assists went to Matt Bush, Brandli, Moats, Newcomer, Mitch Riese and Jon Becker. Winters made 23 saves in goal.
The Avalanche will compete in the Wolves Cup NIHL tournament, which starts Jan. 28.
