Avalanche girls edge Fury

MONROE - On Saturday, Nov. 30, the Avalanche girls hockey team hosted the U12 Janesville Fury. The game was a nail-biter, but the Avalanche girls pulled off a 7-6 win.

Cammi Ganshert scored four goals while Ally Einbeck, Ava Lothes and Anika Einbeck each added one. Haley Knauf and Ally Einbeck each had assists. Goalie Sarah Nicholas recorded 26 saves. The Avalanche had 32 shots on goal.



Squirt A

The Avalanche Squirt A played three games this past weekend. They traveled to Sauk Prairie on Friday, Nov. 29. The Avalanche dominated the game easily winning 7-1. Tessa Janecke scored five goals while Hayden Roth added two. Earning assists with passes were Tessa Janecke, Alyssa Knauf (2), and Anna Malone. Goalie Aiden Runkle recorded 14 saves. The Avalanche had 19 shots on goal.

The Avalanche Squirt A hosted Beloit A on Saturday, Nov. 30. Tessa Janecke opened scoring for the game and Beloit responded with a goal of their own. The score remained 1-1 until seven seconds into the third period when Hayden Roth took it to the net. Beloit couldn't get back on the scoreboard the remainder of the game. Blaze Janecke lit the lamp for two with an assist from Hayden Roth. Tessa Janecke lit the lamp again, assisted by Alvin Buholzer. With the clock ticking away, Jack Leverton made a pass to Tessa Janecke who put it in the net with one second on the clock. The Avalanche won 6-1. The Avalanche outshot Beloit 23-7.

On Sunday, Dec. 1 the Squirt A team traveled to Oregon. It was a tough game for the Avalanche who fell 6-3. Tessa Janecke lit the lamp for two while Hayden Roth added one. Hayden Roth also earned an assist. Goalie Aiden Runkle recorded 15 saves.



PeeWee A

On Saturday, Nov 30, the Monroe Avalanche PeeWee A team played Janesville A at SLICE arena losing 9-4. The Avalanche started strong scoring the first 4 goals to lead the game 4-0 but Janesville scored nine straight goals to take the win. Scoring for the Avalanche was Tessa Janecke with two goals, Joe Wyss and Luke Kuberski added one each. Earning assists were Anika Einbeck (2), Broc Kuberski, Travis Edmunds, Charlie Harris and Janecke. Goalie, Jayden Johnson had 22 saves for the Avalanche.

On Sunday, Dec. 1, the PeeWee A team traveled to Sauk Prairie and lost 4-2. Janecke scored both goals for the Avalanche. Johnson was very strong in the net making 33 saves for Monroe.



Pee Wee B

The Monroe Youth Hockey Pee Wee B team played two games this past weekend. In the first game, the Avalanche hosted Janesville on Saturday, Nov. 30 in a non-league game and lost 3-2 in the last minute.

Monroe goaltender Heath Bear saved all 13 shots in the first period to keep the game scoreless. At the start of the second period, Janesville came out on fire and were finally able to sneak the puck past Bear twice in only the first two minutes of play, making the score 2-0.

At the start of the third period, the Avalanche were able to get on the board with a one-timer by Ryan Molitor who received a centering pass from Ty O'Connor. With 10 minutes to go in the game, the O'Connor brothers were able to connect with each other as Ty launched a shot past the Janesville goaltender by receiving a perfect pass from Colton. Unfortunately, Janesville were the ones who came out on top, flipping a shot past Bear with one minute left to play and ending the game 3-2. Bear recorded 41 saves.

On Sunday, Dec. 1, Monroe Pee Wee B traveled to Reedsburg for their second game of the weekend and took down Reedsburg 4-2. The first period may not have had any scoring, but the Avalanche controlled the game in the Reedsburg zone and were just not able to connect on any of their shots.

In the second period, the Avalanche were able to put the first goal on the board with a wrap-around goal by Molitor, unassisted. Unfortunately, Reedsburg answered less than 90 seconds later to tie the game, ending the second period 1-1.

Colton O'Connor scored all three goals for the Avalanche in the third, earning a hat trick for the game, with one of them being a short-handed goal. His first goal came two minutes into the game with an assist from Bryce Montgomery who kept the puck in the zone and O'Connor was able to find the back of the net. O'Connor's second goal occurred five minutes later with great team play that pushed the puck up the ice by Kaiden Klitzke to Molitor who eventually found O'Connor on the right side of the net for a one-timer. The final Avalanche goal by O'Connor came with four minutes left in the game with a centering pass from behind the net from teammate Molitor.

Bear was solid in net once again recording 18 saves. With the win, Pee Wee B are now 3-3-1 and their next series of games will be this weekend hosting Stoughton at 3:15 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7 at SLICE Arena, and then they travel to Dodgeville at 10:15 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 8 to take on the Ice Wolves.
