William “Billy” LaVerne Stauffer

William “Billy” LaVerne Stauffer, age 89, died Wednesday, March 10, 2021 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Madison. He was born the son of John and Bertha (Peterson) Stauffer on January 14, 1932 at the old Deaconess Hospital in Monroe. Billy attended Porter School and he was a graduate of South Wayne High School in 1950. William was united in marriage to Joyce Eastman on July 26, 1952 in South Wayne. He grew up on a farm outside of South Wayne.

In high school William was quite an athlete, having played baseball, basketball, and football. He later played for the American Legion Baseball team and Home Talent League-baseball. He was a fan of the Chicago White Sox and almost all sports; he also enjoyed woodworking and made many lawn decorations and shelves. Billy loved to decorate for Christmas with numerous lights. He was a great joke teller and also loved to play cards.

Bill is survived by his wife of 68 years, Joyce; children, Nikki Larson of Gratiot, Lori Wienkes of Mt. Horeb, Lonnie (Sherry) Stauffer of South Wayne; Traci (Michael E.) Pickett of Monroe; and Kelli (Douglas) Williams of Ridott, IL; grandchildren, Josh (Rachael) Larson, Jason (Jessica) Larson, Shelley (Tracey) Gentry, Brad (Sara) Kaster, Scott (DeNelle) Kaster, Savanna (Andy) Heindl, Jenny (Brian) Truman, Stacy (Darrick) Kreul, Jessica (Chris) Dougherty, Tim (Erin) Stauffer, Troy Stauffer, Shannon (Adam) Hawkinson, Ryan Pickett, Logan Stukenberg, Nicholas Williams, Amanda Williams, Micki Williams Lobdell, and Misti Schweertman; great-grandchildren, Ashly, Andrea, Corey, Sutter, Josie, Cash, Malia, Avin, Holden, Porter, Barret, Brooklyn, Kate, Julia, Jayde, and Cole, Linda Niesman, Eli and Kali Schweertman; sister, Dorothy Holloway of Monroe; sisters-in-law, Barb Stofflet of Boscobel and Joyce K. Stauffer of Browntown; brothers-in-law, Roger (Vicky) Jackson of Browntown and Everett Eastman of Lake Jackson, TX; son-in-law, Dean Kaster.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Cindi Kaster; grandsons, Cory and Casey Stukenberg; siblings, Yvonne Jackson, Bob and LaVerne Stauffer; sons-in-law, Charles Larson and Keith Stukenberg; brother-in-law, Merrill Holloway; and sister-in-law, Jeanette Eastman.

Funeral Services will be held at 12PM NOON on Monday, March 15, 2021 at SHRINER HAGER GOHLKE Funeral Home with Pastor Dennis Perger officiating. Burial will follow service in Union Cemetery in South Wayne.
