Viola E. Fox, age 94 of Monroe, entered into eternal life on Tuesday, January 26, 2021 at Rachel’s Choice in Monroe. She was born on August 4, 1926 at the Cream Ridge Cheese Factory, Green County, Monroe, the daughter of George and Frances (Stubbe) Ellefson. Viola attended Franklin Elementary, a one-room school.
Viola married Cecil R. Fox. on February 12, 1945 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Gratiot, on her parent’s 21st wedding anniversary. Viola and Cecil made their home on a farm on the Wisconsin side of the Wisconsin/Illinois state line. The couple farmed there until 1972, when they built and moved to their new house on their second farm, on Fox Valley Road, Browntown. She resided there until moving to Rachel’s Choice in October of 2018. She was a seasonal worker for Swiss Colony for many years.
Viola loved being outside. She loved the farm and working in her huge garden. She painted ceramics, made numerous quilts, and made scrapbooks using beautiful pictures from magazines and calendars. She was proud of her flowers and loved all kinds and colors, but her favorite was pink roses. Viola and Cecil traveled all around the United States. She also enjoyed playing bingo at the Senior Center in South Wayne. Viola was famous for her delicious cinnamon rolls; everyone loved them and she loved making them. Viola loved going to family birthday parties. She never passed up a bowl of Culver’s chicken noodle soup or ice cream.
Viola is survived by her five children, Evelyn (Gary Preston) Vavra of Juda, Joanne (Wayne) Krebs of Gratiot, Richard Fox of Browntown, Kathleen (Curt) Obert of Verona, and Duane (Monica Koch) Fox of South Wayne. She is further survived by 11 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; siblings, Robert and Gerald (Ella) Ellefson; Vera Block, and Lyla (Herbie) Krause all of Monroe; and many nieces and nephews.
