Thomas “Tom” Frederick Hurd, age 73, of Browntown passed away on Wednesday, November 8, 2023 surrounded by family.  He was born on April 17, 1950 the son of Frederick and Marjorie (Zastrow) Hurd.   Tom was a graduate of Rio High School and continued his education at U.W. Stevens Point, where he earned his BS in Science.  On September 25, 1981, in Las Vegas, NV, Tom married the love of his life, Jean Chambers.

Tom owned and operated Hurd Painting Co. with his business partner Jerry (Flapp) Plantenberg for over 20 years; retiring in 2015.  He enjoyed the great outdoors, spending his time hunting, fishing, and looking for morel mushrooms.  He also enjoyed gardening and canning, cooking, baking, and listening to music.  His generosity was always apparent, sharing his fresh made pies, garden veggies, or latest catch.  Tom gave away more than he ever kept.  His lively story telling captivated audiences of friends and family. 

Tom is survived by his wife, Jean; children, Jessica (Dan) Bohnert of Holmen and Jason (Brittany) Hurd of Monroe; grandchildren, Hailey Bohnert, Natalie Hurd, Abigail Hurd, and Emily Hurd; and sister, Cindy (Don Schneider) Ashley of Engelwood, FL. 

He was preceded in death by his parents. 

Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, November 15, 2023 at 12:00 PM Noon at SHRINER HAGER GOHLKE Funeral Home.
