Robert L. Ableman, age 90 of Monroe, died Thursday, January 7, 2021 at the Monroe Clinic Hospice Home. Robert was born on September 23, 1930 in Madison, the son of Ted and Ruth (Johnson) Ableman. He was a 1948 graduate of Monroe High School where he was played football, basketball, tennis, and ran track. He participated in chorus, school plays, and other clubs receiving the Citizenship and American Legion awards during his time at MHS. Robert and Janet Heise were married on December 26, 1953 in Janesville. He attended the University of Wisconsin Madison on a ROTC scholarship and was commissioned to active duty in 1953. Bob served in South Korea before his honorable discharge in May, 1955. He returned to the UW to complete his degrees in accounting, finance, and marketing. After graduating in 1956, Robert and Janet moved to Neenah where he worked at Marathon and American Can before returning to Monroe in 1961. In Monroe, Bob was employed at Meythaler and Caton which became Ableman, Cerbins, and Smith CPAs until accepting a position with the Swiss Colony in 1974. He worked many years with the colony until retiring as an Executive Vice President. Bob was an active member of Grace Lutheran Church and served on numerous boards including Monroe School Board, St. Clare Hospital, First National Bank, Oaktron Industries, and DeVere Chemical. He loved spending time with his family at their lake home and wintering with Jan in Sun City West, AZ.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Janet Ableman; five daughters, Ann (Joe) Hunter, Lynn (Mark) Mayer, Beth (Rudy) Ableman-Bernet, all of Monroe, Sue (Dave) Wildemann of Columbus, IN, and Joy Ableman (Sabrina) of Madison; five grandchildren, Abby (Nick) Reckinger, Eric (Jamie) Mayer, Ella (JD) Morris, Marie Wildemann, Karen Wildemann; five great grandchildren, Conner, Kate, and Colden Reckinger, Jack and Charlie Mayer; his sister, Darlene Nuckles of Monroe; and his brother, Herb Ableman of Wausau.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Dean (Bev) Ableman; sister, Wanda (Archie) Myers; brother-in-law, Leonard Nuckles; and sister-in-law, Barbara Ableman.
Private family funeral services will be held at Grace Lutheran Church at a later date. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Monroe. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials are suggested in Robert’s name to Monroe Clinic Hospice, Grace Lutheran Church, or Green County EMS.
