Michael Earl Ufken

Michael Earl Ufken (aka Squeak), age 70, of Monroe, WI and Zephyrhills, FL passed away unexpectedly July 17, 2024 in North Carolina where he was working.  He was born on May 26, 1954 in Monroe, WI, the son of Earl (Pee-Wee) & Bette (Rees) Ufken .  He graduated from Juda High School in 1972.  After graduation Mike worked at Buck’s Mill in Davis, IL and Rees Construction in Monroe, WI.  In 1988 he started building golf courses for Landscapes Unlimited of Lincoln, NE.  A job that he truly loved and quietly took pride in.  He was a golf course Shaper and worked building and renovating several golf courses including Augusta National, St. Pete,  Erin Hills, Monroe Golf Club and most recently Contentment Golf Club in Wilkesboro, NC.  He collected souvenir rocks along the way.  He had the pleasure of enjoying an afternoon with Arnold Palmer when Arnold invited Mike & his buddy to his home to watch the tournament and have a beer.

 

Even though he traveled with his job he stayed very connected to his family and friends throughout the country.  In his free time Mike enjoyed visiting with friends, driving his Model A, motorcycle rides, NASCAR (always a Earnhardt fan) and keeping his truck spotless.

Mike is survived by his sisters, Barbara (Bill) Stuart of Monroe and Nancy (Mark) Liphart of South Wayne, a niece Patti (Josh) Dye and their boys Griffin & Mason, a nephew, Kevin Stuart and his children Breleigh & Brady.  He is further survived by step nieces and nephew and their families.  Aunts LeaAnn Pillath & Jackie Ellingson.  A special friend, Jennifer Szaniszlo, in Florida, a family friend, Connie Flint, in Monroe.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl & Bette Ufken, his Grandparents Albert Ufken & Dora Siegenthaler Ufken Meyers and Bill & Lula Rees, several Aunts & Uncles and a cousin.

Per his wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service.  A casual Celebration of Mike’s life will be held from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM  Sunday, July 28 at the Monroe Golf Club, 2205-21st St.  Monroe, WI
