Darryl L. Pehl "Cowboy", 79, passed away peacefully on July 18, 2026, at his home surrounded by family. He was born on June 6, 1947 in Freeport, IL, to Elmer and Ella Mae (Strohecker) Pehl. Darryl was a devoted husband of Christy, his beloved wife and partner in life. Together they shared a life filled with love, laughter, and countless moments that made their family strong. The love they shared was a beautiful part of Darryl’s life.

Darryl was a loving father to his sons: John (Renee), Shawn (Lisa), and Erich (Heather). His family is his greatest legacy.

Darryl was preceded in death by his son John, parents Elmer & Ella, and his siblings, Valliana and Joe.

Survived by his wife of 45 years, Christy, sons: Shawn and Erich; 9 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, brothers: Duane, Eddie, and Elmer (Karen); along with extended family and friends.

Darryl devoted 34 years to Civil Construction, where his strong work ethic and commitment left a lasting impression. Darryl had a passion for auctions and bringing old tractors & farm equipment back to life. Memories made through these passions will remain a part of his family’s memories of him. His memory will live on in the stories told and the laughter shared. He will be deeply missed, forever loved and never forgotten.

Rest peacefully Darryl. Your work here is done. May you find peace knowing that the love you gave your family will live in their hearts forever.

A visitation will be held on Saturday September 5, 2026, from 10 AM – 12 noon, at the Schwarz Park Blvd Chapel, 608 S. Park Blvd in Freeport, IL.

A Celebration of Life will follow at the Freeport Eagles Club, 1200 W. Galena Ave in Freeport, IL, from 1 PM – 5 PM.
