Clayton N. Martin, age 93 of New Glarus, WI, formerly of Argyle, WI, passed away Sunday, September 22, 2019 at the New Glarus Home in New Glarus. He was born August 14, 1926 in Argyle Township in Lafayette County, WI, the son of Joseph and Nellie (Nelson) Martin. Clayton graduated from Argyle High School in 1943. He was united in marriage to Margaret A. Hendrickson on December 9, 1962 at Argyle United Methodist Church in Argyle. Clayton lived and farmed on the Spring Valley Farms in Argyle Township his entire life, until retiring in 1995. In 2012 Clayton sold his farm and moved into the village of Argyle.  He later moved to New Glarus Home where he has resided since.

Clayton is survived by his nephews: Bill (Jan) Hendrickson of Janesville, WI, David Martin of Oswego, WI, and Ron (Beth) Martin of Fort Atkinson, WI; his great-nieces and nephews: Cynthia Martin of Oswego, WI, Katherine (Joshua) Harper of Anchorage, Alaska; Brenda Martin of Salt Lake City, Utah; William Martin of Platteville, WI, Aaron Martin of Rockport, TX, and Emily Martin of River Falls, WI; and one sister-in-law: Dorothy Martin of New Glarus. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Margaret on January 13, 2003; and two brothers: Alton and Sherman Martin.

Clayton was a member of Yellowstone Lutheran Church in rural Argyle where he served on its Church Council as secretary and treasurer. He also proudly served as Town of Argyle Treasurer for 52 years and was a Lafayette County ASCS Board Member for the Town of Argyle. Clayton was an avid bowler in his younger years proudly bowling in both Blanchardville, WI and Monroe, WI.  Playing baseball was also a love of Clayton’s in his younger adult years. He was a true Milwaukee Brewers, Green Bay Packers, and Wisconsin Badgers fan. Clayton proudly attended the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, CA in 1960 where unfortunately the Washington Huskies defeated his beloved Badgers. Clayton greatly enjoyed visiting with his nephews and their families.  He will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by his family and friends.

A funeral service will be held Friday, September 27, 2019 at 11:00 A.M. at Yellowstone Lutheran Church (4472 Saints Road, Blanchardville, WI) with Rev. Daniel L. Bohlman officiating. Burial will be in Yellowstone Lutheran Church Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 4:00 until 7:00 P.M. on Thursday, September 26, 2019 at the Erickson Funeral Home in Argyle and also from 10:00 A.M. until 10:45 on Friday at the church.  The Erickson Funeral Home in Argyle is serving the family.
