Charles “Chuck” Ekena, age 84, of Monroe passed away on Wednesday, September 25, 2024 at the SSM Health Monroe Hospital.  He was born on May 29, 1940 the son of Arthur and Mary (Goetze) Ekena.  He graduated from Brimfield High School.  After high school Chuck attended Western Illinois University, graduating in 1962 with his bachelor’s degree in physical education.  Chuck was united in marriage with Marilyn Sanderson on August 24, 1963 in Moline, IL.   

Chuck was a health and physical education teacher for the Monroe School District, he taught for 37 years retiring in 1997.  He enjoyed playing cards, golfing, traveling with his wife, and visiting with friends.    

Chuck is survived by his children, Kristin Leslie of Racine and Thomas Ekena of Monroe; grandchildren, Josh and Jenna Leslie, Victoria, Mariya, and Anthony Ekena; and brother, Rolland (Ardenne) Ekena of Elmwood, IL.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and wife, Marilyn.

A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, October 3, 2024 at 12:00 PM Noon at Grace Lutheran Church with Pastor John Tabaka officiating.  Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery.
