MONROE - Winter Awareness Week is today, Nov. 4 through Friday, Nov. 8. The week is meant for individuals and families to prepare for winter conditions that could threaten their safety.

Green County Emergency Management reminds residents to have an emergency supply kit for their car. Winter storm survival kits should be carried in the back seat of vehicle in case trunks are jammed or are frozen shut.

Kits should include: blankets or sleeping bags, flashlight with extra batteries, a first-aid kit, shovel, booster cables, windshield scraper, non-perishable food like raisins and energy bars, water, sand or cat litter for traction, and a cell phone adapter/USB portable emergency battery.
