MONROE - Green County Land and Water Conservation Department is offering nine varieties of hardwood trees and three varieties of shrubs for landowners interested in planting trees next spring 2012.
Trees can be ordered by contacting the department directly by phone or walk-in, or by ordering through the Green County website. Orders will be taken until Thursday, Dec. 29.
The cost is $2 per tree, with a minimum order of 10 of one species. Trees must be ordered in increments of 10 per species.
The tree varieties are: Bur Oak, Red Oak, White Oak, and Swamp White Oak; Black Cherry; Sugar Maple; Shagbark Hickory; Hackberry;and Butternut. Shrubs available are: Serviceberry; Hazel Nut; and Elderberry.
The trees and shrubs are all native to the area and are considered hardwoods. With the variety of species offered this year, the trees and shrubs will cover a broad range of soil types and moistures, from dry to very wet.
