Three finalists named for administrator

MONROE - The City of Monroe announced the names of its three candidates for the vacant city administrator position, Monday.

The three finalists for the administrator position, which includes legal duties, are James Gitz, Prairie du Chien, Rex Ewald, Monroe, and James Mogen, Rice, Minn. The job description also includes work in human resources.

An interview schedule and timeline for hiring may be set up as early as next week.

Gitz, the current city administrator of Prairie du Chien, holds a bachelor's degree in economics from the University of Illinois-Springfield, and a law degree from the Northwestern University Law School, according to a 2008 report in the Record-Eagle newspaper in Traverse City, Mich.

Gitz was one of six finalists vying for the position of city administrator in Traverse City in October 2008. He was previously an eight-year mayor of Freeport, Ill.

The City of Prairie du Chien is also currently advertising for a city administrator, with resumes due by Oct. 30, according to the municipality's Web site.

Rex Ewald, currently the Monroe city attorney, holds a bachelor's degrees in economics and geography from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville, and a law degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

He has practiced law in Monroe since 1979, and is a partner in the Voegli & Ewald Law Offices.

Ewald has been active on the Green County YMCA board of directors. He has served as chairman for the United Way of Green County fundraising campaign. He also volunteers as legal counsel to the Green County Cheese Days, Inc.

Information regarding Mogen was not immediately available.
