MONTICELLO - A 13-year-old Monticello girl was Medflighted to a hospital with serious injuries after being hit by a motor vehicle while she was riding a bicycle on the Badger State Trail Friday, June 8.
Her companion, a 14-year-old Monticello boy, was transported by ambulance for minor injuries.
According to the Green County Sheriff's Department, the crash was reported at 1:30 p.m. Friday on Exeter Crossing Road, east of Wettach Road at the Badger State Bicycle Trail.
The vehicle, operated by Earnest Ruegsegger, 41, Monticello, was westbound, while the two bicyclists were southbound on the trail, crossing over Exeter Road. Ruegsegger was not injured.
The crash is still under investigation, but visibility is considered a contributing factor in the accident, deputies said in a news release. Monticello Police, Monticello Fire, New Glarus Police, New Glarus EMS and Belleville EMS also responded.
