MONROE — Police are seeking leads in a burglary that occurred sometime between Thanksgiving night and early the next morning at Taco Bell, 606 W. 8th St.
A Taco Bell employee who discovered the break-in and theft of cash reported it to police at 6:19 a.m. Friday, Nov. 29.
The burglar or burglars didn’t get into the restaurant’s food.
“They were clearly looking for what they left with,” Chief of Police Fred Kelley said.
Kelley said the burglary could be connected to a string of similar recent burglaries of fast food restaurants across southern Wisconsin.
“A lot of these burglaries have some commonalities,” Kelley said. “So now the game is afoot, as Sherlock Holmes said. But we think this person has played in several games.”
A burglary last summer of the Dairy Queen down the street from the Taco Bell remains unsolved. That burglary also occurred overnight, in the early morning hours of July 31.
Kelley is encouraging anyone with knowledge of the burglaries to call the Monroe Police Department at 608-329-2400 or submit a tip anonymously to Green County Crimestoppers online at greencountycrimestoppers.com, by phone at 800-I-C-CRIME or via the P3 Tips mobile app.
