NEW GLARUS - A suicidal subject across the street from the New Glarus Elementary School caused the school to go on lockdown Wednesday afternoon.
According to a release from the New Glarus Police Department, at approximately 12:24 p.m. Wednesday police responded to a possible suicidal subject in the 10 block of 14th Avenue. Based on initial information it was unknown if the subject was armed. The location of the subject was directly across the street from the New Glarus Elementary School, and since the playground was full of children the police department requested that the school be placed on emergency lockdown, according to the release.
Shortly thereafter police forced entry into the residence and located the subject deceased with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. After determining that there was no danger to the community, the emergency lockdown of the school was lifted.
