MONROE - Attendance is required - because words cannot adequately describe "Bible Bingo: An Act of Charity ... in Two Acts," a comedy about fundraising and bingo, created by Vicki Quade, a playwright and producer of Chicago theater.

"Bible Bingo," an off-shoot of Quade's long-running production, "Late Night Catechism," is coming to Monroe Saturday at Monroe High School's Performing Arts Center. St. Victor School is hosting the performance as its final fundraising event of the year.

St. Victor School wanted something to "incorporate the entire community," said Robert Wagner, chairman of the school's fundraising committee.

"People ask if it's about Bible trivia or bingo," he said. "It's neither - and both."

One thing is for sure, the show is beyond Catholic.

"It's even beyond the Bible," Quade said. "It's about religion in society."

The play's story is about a parish that needs money and the Archdiocese, which has a new bingo department.

Quade brought the two situations together in her play that interacts with the audience at a performance for a hilarious evening of Bible trivia, the Holy Family quiz, wacky prizes and, yes, real bingo cards to play the game.

"I discovered bingo appeals way across the board," Quade said. And she was pleased to learn that since creating it in 2011, the show also has wide appeal.

Attendees have been Jewish, Muslim and Christian from the vast array of denominations, according to Quade. Humor and the interactive format of the performance cut through the differences of people in large groups and melds them together by their similarities, she said.

But "Bible Bingo" "doesn't make fun," Quade said. "We're out to have fun."

To perform the show in Monroe, Quade is sending Cheryl Roy, an improvisational actress and one of the newest members of Nun4Fun productions. Roy plays Mrs. Mary Margaret O'Brien, a former nun, who travels the country helping schools and churches raise funds, and she still remembers how to use the ruler.

Roy has worked with Strawdog Theatre in "Big Love" as Bella and with Steep Theatre in "The Receptionist "as Beverly. She appeared in "Legion," WildClaw Theatre; "Taming of the Shrew," Theo Ubique Cabaret Theatre; and "Standing in Mattoon," Leaving Iowa LLC. Some of her Detroit favorites include "Marvin's Room," "Henry V," "Comedy of Errors" and "Antigone." She is a graduate of the School of Steppenwolf.
