DARLINGTON - A plea agreement for a Browntown woman charged with attempted homicide is nearing resolution.

Brandy Smithey, 33, faces a Class A felony charge of first-degree intentional homicide for attacking her then-boyfriend with an ax.

Smithey also faces a Class H charge of aggravated battery and three counts of bail jumping.

Smithey appeared in Lafayette County Circuit Court Thursday to determine the date by which her plea agreement will be finalized. Green County Judge James Beer set the plea hearing for May 25.

Any sentence Smithey incurs will also be determined on that date.

Smithey allegedly attacked her boyfriend after an altercation on Feb. 4, 2015. Although she denied having wielded the ax, the victim claimed she ordered her dog to attack him, then hacked at his arm with an ax. The victim also claimed Smithey attacked him with a baseball bat.

The victim sustained life-threatening injuries to his right arm and shoulder.

Smithey's $100,000 signature bond prohibits her from consuming any alcohol or drugs without a valid prescription.
