MONROE - Only two performances remain in Monroe Arts Center's 2017 "Holiday Series" at MAC, 1315 11th Street.

The one-man show "The Night Before Christmas Carol" will be performed at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at MAC. Most people know the story "A Christmas Carol" but many may not be familiar with how it came about. In this theatrical presentation created by renowned Dickens scholar Elliot Engel, the audience will peer into the life of the real Charles Dickens. Actor David zum Brunnen will portray Dickens and over 17 characters from the story to show how he composed this winter tale.

MAC's "Holiday Series" will close at 2 p.m. Dec. 16 with the concert "Together for the Holidays" by Monroe's Bel Canto Singers and Monroe Swiss Singers. In this one-hour concert, these well-known area vocal groups will present selections from their full-length concert performances.

Under the direction of Allen Redford, the Bel Canto Singers are recognized for the artistic interpretations of choral works. Monroe Swiss Singers, under the direction of Deborah Krauss Smith, is a mixed choir specializing in the performance and preservation of Swiss/German folklore music and customs.

The annual Holiday Silent Auction is another part of the festivities at MAC. Currently on display, the auction features hundreds of unique gift items, including original artwork, gourmet dinners, home decor items and sports memorabilia. Prior to the Dec. 16 concert, a whistle-blow at 1:45 p.m. will end the auction bidding.

Performance tickets may be purchased at the box office at 1315 11th Street, by calling 608-325-5700 or online at www.monroeartscenter.com.
