'Shoe' fits for the Times

MONROE - The comic strip "Shoe" has been selected as a permanent addition to The Monroe Times' daily Fun & Games page.

"Shoe" will replace "Cathy," the popular long-running strip that ended in early October. Based on comments submitted by readers, along with feedback from an online poll, "Shoe" was the most popular of six options tested by the Times.

"Shoe" follows a flock of newspapermen and fellow townspeople, all of whom are birds, in the fictionalized Treetops, East Virginia. The strip was created and drawn by Jeff MacNelly from 1977 until his death in 2000; the strip is now created by Chris Cassatt, Gary Brookins and Susie MacNelly.

The strip begins today on Page B3.
