BRODHEAD — No one was seriously injured Sunday afternoon when a light plane crashed upon landing at Brodhead airport in the Town of Decatur.
Authorities said the plane ran into trouble just after 12:05 p.m. on March 13 with two people aboard, near the airport along the N2600 block of Brodhead Airport Road.
“Investigations determined the pilot, identified as Delbert D Devries, 56, of Browntown and his passenger, identified as John R Musser, 61, of Freeport, were practicing landing techniques when the aircraft, a 1975 Cessna, experienced mechanical troubles,” officials said in a press release March 14.
Devries reportedly told police he was attempting to land the Cessna when “weather and speed conditions” caused the aircraft to go beyond the landing strip. Once at the end of the runway, the plane overturned, landing on its top. Devries was uninjured, but Musser was transported by EMS for reported injuries, though his condition was unknown at press time.
Among the responding agencies were Green County Sheriff’s deputies, Brodhead Police, Brodhead Fire Department, Monroe EMS, and the Wisconsin Dept. of Natural Resources.
The FAA also has been notified of the incident, officials said.
