NEW GLARUS - The New Glarus Brewing Company will begin producing beer in cans as early as this summer, owner Deborah Carey announced Wednesday.

No date has been set yet for the canned beer but Carey expects it will be sometime this summer. This will be the first time the brews will be available in cans.

Moon Man will be the first brew available in cans and sold in 12 packs. Spotted Cow will follow.

"We are really trying to focus on taking care of our consumers," Carey said. "It's lighter, more environmentally friendly and cost effective" to offer beer in cans.

The brewery will get the cans from Franklin, and it will be a 100 percent Wisconsin-made product. New Glarus beers are available only in Wisconsin.
