MONROE - Trevor James McGuire, accused of killing a 10-year-old Stoughton boy in October, appeared in court Monday and had a status conference set for Sept. 5 so attorneys on both sides can analyze an accident reconstruction report.

The report, put together by a branch of the Wisconsin State Patrol devoted to car accidents, will show in detail how the wreck was caused.

McGuire, 22, Madison, is facing one count of first-degree reckless homicide, two counts of homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle, two counts of injury caused by intoxicated use of a vehicle, one count of first-degree reckless injury and one count of first-degree recklessly endangering safety for the Oct. 7 crash that claimed the life of Michael Iverson.

Court records indicate McGuire was driving a 1998 red GMC pickup truck that hit a minivan driven by Matthew Iverson, 35, Stoughton, on Wisconsin 59 at Broughton Road, Albany. Matthew is Michael's father. Michael's two siblings were also in the van and sustained minor injuries. Matthew Iverson received extensive injuries, including a fractured pelvis, back, elbow, cheek bone and broken ribs.

McGuire also sustained injuries and had to be transported to the hospital. His passenger Michael G.V. Ladwig, 24, had minor injuries but declined medical attention at the scene of the crash. Deputies found an open bottle of tequila on the passenger-side floor of McGuire's pickup.

McGuire and Ladwig had reportedly been drinking and loading furniture in preparation for their move to a new apartment in Monroe before the crash. The Iversons were on their way home from a volleyball game in Monroe.

McGuire will remain on bond, barring him from drinking, entering bars or liquor stores and requiring him to stay with his mother in Madison. He is currently getting treatment for substance abuse at the Manitoba House Facility.
