MONROE - Young athletes can receive a pre-participation sports screening at walk-in clinics from 4 to 6 p.m. July 19 and from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Aug. 2 at Monroe Clinic Family Medicine, 515 22nd Ave.
Pre-participation sports screenings address any health issues or injuries in preparation for the next sports season. These screenings do not replace complete physicals. Incoming ninth-grade students are not eligible to receive a pre-participation screening and should receive a full school physical in order to fully address adolescent health issues. Insurance is not billed, so there is a $20 fee payable at the time of screening by cash, check or credit.
If athletes cannot make the July or August walk-in clinics, wellness physicals are available. Wellness physicals are a comprehensive health analysis and are covered by most insurance companies at no cost to the athlete. Immunizations are completed at these appointments, and they also fulfill the sports physical requirements. Go to monroeclinic.org/sportsmedicine for locations and phone numbers.
