MONROE — A warrant has been issued and authorities are actively searching for a Brodhead man, accused of sexually assaulting a minor under the age of 12 late this past summer.

According to a criminal complaint filed in Green County Circuit Court, Diego Campos Pina, 29, has been charged with three counts of first-degree aggravated criminal sexual assault of a child following the incidents, which reportedly occurred between August and September, 2022.

The defendant is related to the victim and the abuse reportedly started within three months of him moving to Brodhead.

“…The first time that Diego inappropriately touched her they were sitting in the living room under a blanket watching Tik-Tok videos on her phone,” the complaint said, noting that the victim was clothed at the time.

But the alleged abuse apparently got much worse. On another occasion, Campos Pina allegedly came into the victim’s room at night drunk and raped the young girl. The complaint says the victim was too scared to mention the abuse at that time.

The defendant, who reportedly worked in Wisconsin Dells, has not been seen in this area for some time, according to police. He may have even fled to Mexico, where he apparently has a wife. The suspect does not drive, nor does he have a car.

An active warrant, meanwhile, is out for his arrest in Green County.

Green County District Attorney Craig Nolen declined to comment directly about the case, other than to say the suspect is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

“Mr. Campos Pina has not been arrested and remains at large,” said Nolen.

If convicted on the felonies he is charged with, Campos Pina faces a maximum 60 years in state prison, fines and lifetime registration as a sex offender.

Those with any information about Diego Campos’ whereabouts can contact Brodhead Police directly or Green County Crime Stoppers.
