NEW GLARUS — A Madison man was arrested the day before his 19th birthday for robbing a New Glarus gas station of vape pens.
At approximately 10:01 a.m. on March 19, the New Glarus Police Department was notified of a robbery that had occurred at the BP Gas Station, located at 619 Wis. 69, New Glarus. According to a press release, the suspect and their vehicle had already left the scene by the time the incident was reported, resulting in a delay before the authorities were alerted.
Upon arrival and the initiation of an investigation, officers were able to quickly gather information regarding the suspects and the vehicle involved. The store clerk reported that a male offender entered the business and began ripping open packages of vape pens. When the clerk confronted the suspect, he verbally threatened the clerk and stated that he had a firearm and reached for it. In response, the clerk disengaged, and the suspect proceeded to steal several items before fleeing the scene in a vehicle. Fortunately, no one was injured during the incident.
As the investigation progressed, officers were able to identify the suspect. At 10:09 a.m. on March 20, New Glarus Police located and arrested the suspect, identified as Nathan J. Hill, 18 of Madison. It was the day before his 19th birthday.
Hill was transported to the Green County Jail and booked on the charges listed above. The case will be forwarded to the Green County District Attorney for review, and additional charges may be filed as the investigation continues.
