MADISON - The William S. Middleton Memorial Veterans Hospital will hold its first annual Adaptive Recreation and Wellness Expo beginning at 8:15 a.m. Wednesday.

The purpose of the event is to allow veterans the opportunity to view and trial adaptive recreation equipment as well as to raise their awareness of Madison area community organizations that offer adaptive recreation and wellness opportunities.

The event will begin with registration for veterans from 8:15 to 8:55 a.m. in room B-2055 or near the old main entrance by the Community Living Center at the William S. Middleton Memorial Veterans Hospital. The Expo will then be held from 9 a.m. until noon.

The Adaptive Recreation Expo is reserved for veterans interested in adaptive recreation opportunities, veterans' family members/caregivers and VA providers. Veterans with physical and/or mental health disabilities, who require modifications to recreation equipment to allow participation in adaptive recreation and wellness pursuits, are encouraged to attend.

Veterans can explore adaptive activities and equipment such as adaptive bicycling, Nordic skiing, fishing, hunting, rock climbing, kayaking, equestrian therapy and yoga.

A complimentary lunch will be offered from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. for the first 75 registered veterans. Veterans will share their own personal experiences with adaptive recreation and guidance for how to obtain the adaptive equipment. Lunch will be provided for up to one guest for $7 and for any veteran attendees outside of the first 75. Contact Kim Wagner at 608-256-1901 ext. 12790 to RSVP for lunch.
