MAC exhibit features regional talent

MONROE - Monroe Arts Center's 35th Anniversary Season continues the yearlong celebration by showcasing an invitational show of 35 artists from Wisconsin, Illinois, and Minnesota.

On display from March 4 through March 25 is the new exhibit titled, Thirty-Five 12" x 12".

This select group of artists has previously exhibited in Frehner Gallery, or has been featured in the gallery within the last year, or perhaps will have a show in the future. Each artist was required to create a piece of artwork that fits within the dimension of approximately 12 inches.

With no restrictions on subject matter, the artwork ranges from abstract to representational including people, landscapes, animals, and themes in nature. A broad variety of media is represented and includes painting, drawing, sculpture, pottery, wood-turning, photography, collage, basket weaving, metal work, scherenschnitte (paper cutting), fractal art, bronze sculpture, and jewelry.

The exhibiting artists include Sherry Ackerman, Sue Barrett, Beth Blahut, Erich Boldt, Thomas Brain, Jenn Bushman, Kathleen D'Angelo, Tony D'Angelo, Dan Devitt, Joyce Diveley, Matt Duckett, Peter Flanary, Donna Johnson, Ron Johnson, Betty Kendrick, Kathy King, Kevin Kitto, Jocelyn Kline, Gary D. Lewis, Dave Miess, Milo Parker, Elmer Peterson, Sandy Peterson, Carol Pfluhoeft, Mark Pfluhoeft, John Ready, Sherrie Sakora, Linda Schiesser, Elda Schiesser, Marianne Stanke, Pat Troyer, Linda Utech, Steven Van Hout, Anthony Wahl, Jonathan Wilde, and John Wright.

The Wisconsin artists are from the cities of Belleville, Blanchardville, Brodhead, Cottage Grove, Galesville, LaCrosse, LaFarge, Madison, McFarland, Mineral Point, Monroe, Monticello, New Glarus, Onalaska, Oregon, and West Salem. Also included are artists from Rockford, Illinois and LaCrescent, Minnesota. An opening reception for this exhibit is scheduled for Friday, March 4 from 5 to 7 p.m., in the Monroe Arts Center Frehner Gallery, with a brief gallery talk at 5:30 p.m.
