A Jan. 9, 2025 house fire on the northern edge of Monroe displaced a family. 

The family safely made it out, however, some of their pets (specifically a dog, a hamster and a fish) were unable to escape, according to a resident of the home. 

Monroe Fire, Monroe Rural Fire, New Glarus Fire, Monroe Police, Monticello Fire and Green County EMS were among the agencies that responded to the scene, located on North 20th Avenue. MABAS Box Alarm 511 was called just after 12:30 p.m. 

Investigation into the fire was ongoing as of press time.
