MONROE - If you swing on down to the Square at 6:30 p.m. Thursday you will be able to hear big band era music during a Main Street Monroe concert.

Colony Brands is sponsoring The Moonlight Jazz Orchestra, which will be performing classics like those of Benny Goodman and Glenn Miller, as well as dance and party favorites from Elvis, the B-52's and Huey Lewis. The Rockford band promises an evening of quality music and great showmanship plus a touch of comedy.

Monroe Theatre Guild's Cabaret Players will be dressed in clothing from the big band and swing eras and Dan Zimmerman's 1930 Ford Model A will be available for photo opportunities. Intermission entertainment by the Studio M Dancers will be presented by the John and Katie Baumann Inspiration Project.

Food will be available and the Main Street Beverage Garden will feature a variety of local brews and a wine stand, with proceeds benefiting Habitat for Humanity.

Transportation for residents from nursing homes and assisted living facilities is being provided courtesy of the Clifford and Dorothy Reasa Charitable Fund of the Monroe Fund through Community Foundation of Southern Wisconsin.

The featured nonprofit for this show is Pleasant View Foundation, an organization dedicated to making Pleasant View Skilled Nursing and Rehab Facility an even better place for residents. Loved ones may be honored by making a memorial tribute to the Pleasant View endowment fund or supporting the special projects fund set up to enhance the quality of life for residents through life enrichment activities and increasing accessibility.

In case of rain, the entire event moves to SLICE. For the latest updates follow "Downtown Monroe Events and News" on Facebook or visit the web site mainstreetmonroe.org.

Upcoming concert dates are Aug. 12 (Free Fallin') and Aug. 25 (Birddog Blues Band and The Family Business).

Vendors, artisans and other groups are invited to join the Aug.12 concert for a "sunset celebration" on the inner ring of the south side of the square.
