MONROE - The recently vacated position of Green County coroner appears to remain open, despite a term that begins today.
Gov. Scott Walker's office did not return phone calls about appointing a new coroner set to start today in the wake of former coroner Kris Hasse's resignation, effective Sunday.
Hasse announced her resignation in late November after winning an unopposed election for a four-year term Nov. 4. She cited family issues as her reason for leaving the position. Hasse was appointed as county coroner four years ago and had worked in the office for 18 years.
The coroner's office is currently being run by five deputy coroners in Hasse's absence.
The governor's office sought applicants who live in Green County with a deadline of Dec. 16 to submit application materials.
Green County Clerk Mike Doyle said Monday he had no information about any prospective hires for the coroner position, and had not yet heard if there had been an appointment made.
