MONROE - Colony Brands has been named one of Forbes magazine's "Best Employers 2015."

The Monroe-based multi-channel direct marketing company announced Thursday that it has been included in the popular business magazine's listing of best employers in the packaged goods category.

The survey considered companies in all industry sectors in the United States with more than 2,500 employees. Out of 20,000 companies considered, only 500 were selected for the "Best Employers 2015" list. Topping the list for all categories were Google and Costco. In the packaged goods category, Colony Brands, ranked No. 398, beat out major corporations including Kimberly-Clark, L'Oreal Group and Newell Rubbermaid.

Helping launch Colony Brands into this elite group were the positive reactions from employees and community members who were contacted as part of the survey, Colony officials said in a news release.

"As the president of Colony Brands, I cannot express how proud I am of the employees and the community that helped Colony Brands achieve this prestigious award," CEO John Baumann said. "Colony Brands was built with great people, and it's our people that make us great day after day and year after year."

Colony Brands, formerly The Swiss Colony, began in Monroe in 1926, shipping cuts of cheese to a handful of customers. Today the company is one of the largest catalog companies with 11 catalog brands, 30 locations in six states and an overseas office in Shanghai, China, in addition to an extensive portfolio of affiliates. Its brands include The Swiss Colony, Seventh Avenue, Montgomery Ward, Monroe & Main, Ginny's, Midnight Velvet, Ashro, Through the Country Door, The Tender Filet, The Wisconsin Cheeseman, and Home at Five.

Colony Brands has more than 1,200 regular employees and 6,000 temporary employees.
