MONROE - Emily Guerin, a Monroe native named Miss Wisconsin USA in September, will find out Sunday during the 2012 pageant finals if she'll win the national crown.

The pageant airs at 8 p.m. CST on NBC.

Guerin, 23, graduated from Monroe High School in 2007. The Miss Wisconsin USA contest was her first pageant: She entered at the suggestion of a friend, just six weeks before the state competition in Fond du Lac.

She's been in Las Vegas since mid-May rehearsing for the pageant and making Miss USA-related appearances. She was joined this week by her parents, Diana and Lance Guerin.

While Guerin is relatively new to the pageant world, her father, a chiropractor in Monroe, has his own history of bringing home trophies. He started competing in bodybuilding contests in the late 1970s while still in high school and won the title of "Mr. Midwest" in an amateur bodybuilding competition in 1993.

Guerin has been unavailable for an interview while preparing for the pageant. But in dispatches from her Twitter and Facebook feeds, she writes that since coming to Las Vegas, she's danced onstage with the music duo LMFAO and participated in fashion shows and photo shoots.

Guerin owns her own business and also works as a representative for the Dallas-based travel company WorldVentures. She studied theater at a state college in Colorado before deciding to switch paths and study online stock trading.

As part of her Miss USA charity work, she wants to teach financial literacy to kids and work with Hug It Forward, a nonprofit that aims to empower rural communities in Guatemala to build schools out of plastic bottles stuffed with inorganic trash. She's spent time in Guatemala working on a project with Hug It Forward.

Miss USA is a Donald Trump and NBC Universal joint venture, and if Guerin wins Miss USA, she'll move to New York City for a year to work with the program.
