MONROE - Monroe Main Street and Monroe Chamber of Commerce are working to raise funds to light the Christmas tree on the southeast corner of the Green County Courthouse lawn.

Organizers expect to need 60 strings of lights to light the tree. A string of lights is available for each $25 donation. Both groups hope to have the funds raised in October so lights can be purchased and installed for a ceremony after the Christmas Parade, themed "Santa's Workshop," on Friday, Dec. 2.

A tax-deductible donation can be made to Monroe Main Street and mailed to the Monroe Chamber of Commerce. A donation to buy a $1 bulb can be made at numerous businesses around Monroe.

For more information or a tax-deductible form, call Pam Christopher at the Chamber of Commerce (608) 325-7648 or Tom Miller at (608) 329-4421.
