NEW GLARUS - New Glarus School District is getting help from Jack Link's Protein Snacks - in the form of a $30,000 donation - to pay for a new wireless network across the district.

"We're extremely fortunate to have such a great community partner," Superintendent Jennifer Thayer said. "Jack Link's has been extremely generous to us and having extra funding from outside the district is extremely important during these difficult budget times."

Thayer said the school district gets a donation from the company every year because it operates a plant in New Glarus. The donations always go toward technology.

Jack Link's said in a news release that it "has a long-standing history of giving back to the local communities in which it operates."

This year's donation, which Thayer said is higher than past years, will cover a portion of the cost to upgrade the district's wireless network to give students and school staff faster internet access.

She noted the importance of keeping "everything up and running at a quick rate" since the district started providing a Chromebook for each student in kindergarten through 12th grade. And Jack Link's previous donations helped New Glarus get started with the one-to-one initiative, Thayer said.

The rest of the cost for the wireless upgrade is being covered by the federal E-rate program and funding from the Village of New Glarus, according to Thayer.

Jack Link's headquarters are located in Minong in northwestern Wisconsin.
