MONROE - Green County Chief Deputy Jeff Skatrud has been appointed Green County Emergency Management Director.

Skatrud was appointed to the position Oct. 1 by Green County Sheriff Randy Roderick. The appointment will be finalized at the Oct. 20 Green County Board meeting.

In August, the county board voted to move emergency management to the Sheriff's Department.

Tanna McKeon, Green County Emergency Management project manager, and Emergency Medical Services Project Manager Mindy Allen will have offices at the sheriff's department beginning in November.

While the change is new for Green County, it isn't uncommon for emergency management directors to work closely with county sheriffs

In Lafayette County, Chief Deputy John Reichling is also emergency management director. Reichling said the relationship between the sheriff's department and first responders has worked well in Lafayette County.

Skatrud said the benefit of the move for the county is that there will be a person on-call 24 hours a day because there are always dispatchers at the Sheriff's Department.

"It's difficult to expect two people to be on call 24 hours a day," Skatrud said.

Anyone who needs to contact emergency management can contact McKeon at 328-9416 between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. After 4:30 p.m., people should contact the Sheriff's Department at 328-9400.

Keith Ingwell served as emergency management director for 31 years. Ingwell will keep his duties as Green County veterans service officer, a position he's held for 32 years.
