MONROE - City residents can expect their new refuse and recycling bins to be delivered to their homes between June 24 and July 3.
The city's goal is to begin trash and recycling pickups July 8 using new trucks with automated side loaders that grab the bins and dumps them in the trucks' hoppers.
The city is working to get the new automated garbage trucks delivered on time, said Tom Boll, city street supervisor, May 6 at a meeting of the Board of Public Works.
Once the trucks are delivered, city employees who will operate the trucks need about eight hours of training and some additional time to practice pickups with them, he added.
The bins come to the homes already assembled, and residents will receive additional information on use of the bins and pickup dates by mail.
The Common Council voted 8-1 in October to use up to $950,000 from the current fund balance to purchase the new trucks and trash containers for its city service. The funds are to be repaid through trash fees.
