Viola Mary Kempfer-Saxer

NEW GLARUS - Viola Mary (Altmann) Kempfer-Saxer, age 77, of New Glarus, WI, passed away on Sunday, April 6, 2008, at the New Glarus Home, New Glarus, WI. Viola was born on May 24, 1930, in Monroe, WI, the daughter of Theodore L. and Clara M. (Kopp) Altmann. In 1948 she was united in marriage to Clifford Fredrick Joseph Kempfer at the St. John's United Church of Christ, Monroe. He preceded her in death in 1969. In 1971 she married Harry Willis Saxer in Orangeville, IL. Viola was a nurses aid at St. Clare Hospital Monroe for twenty-five years. She was a member of the Swiss United Church of Christ, the Ladies Aid, and the Swissettes Homemakers.

Survivors include her husband Harry W. Saxer of New Glarus, WI; her children: Linda (Willis) Kempfer-Disch of New Glarus, WI, Roy (Sue) Kempfer of New Glarus, WI, Kenneth (Sue) Kempfer of Appleton, WI, Michael (Cherri) Kempfer of New Glarus, WI, Jeffrey (Tina) Kempfer of New Glarus, WI, Bryan Saxer of New Glarus, WI, Scott (Cindy) Saxer of Pearl City, IL, Michael (Diane) Saxer of Janesville, WI, Belinda Saxer Naef of Arizona; 23 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers: Theodore J. (Donna) Altman of Sacramento, CA, and LaVerne (Marianne) Altman of Monroe, WI; 2 sisters: Violet M. Gilbertson (twin sister) of Mt. Horeb, WI and Sharon C. Hanson of Verona, WI.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Clifford Kempfer; a grandson, John Baker; and 3 nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 10, 2008, at the Swiss United Church of Christ, New Glarus, WI. The Rev. Tom Neilsen and Pastor Patty Marty officiating with burial in the Swiss Church Cemetery, New Glarus.

Relatives and friends may call from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 9, 2008, at the Zentner-Beal Funeral Home, 29 6th Avenue, New Glarus, WI.

A memorial fund has been established in her memory.
